AI grading of prostate cancer image

AI grading of prostate cancer

Spearpoint Analytics has used the AI compute and data sharing services at the NBIS infrastructure unit AIDA Data Hub to improve the diagnostic tools available for prostate cancer using AI and machine learning.

The startup company Spearpoint Analytics develops an outcome-based analysis (PCAI – Prostate Cancer Aggressiveness Index) that predicts the severity of prostate cancer by analyzing microscopy images of tissue sections.

Precision medicine test for prostate cancer

Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden now offers routine diagnostic testing of cell-free DNA in patients with metastatic prostate cancer. Researchers at Karolinska Institutet and SciLifeLab developed the test, now also available to hospitals across the Nordic region, potentially broadening treatment options for more patients with mutations in certain genes.

GenErode, conservation of endangered species

A new bioinformatics pipeline, called GenErode, has been created by a group of researchers from the SciLifeLab National Bioinformatics Infrastructure (NBIS) and the Swedish Museum of Natural History and Stockholm University. The new pipeline may become very important for conservation experts and addresses a fundamental limitation within the field of genomic studies on endangered species.

Industry case: Key2Brain’s, Antibody Fragments

The infrastructure at SciLifeLab is a prerequisite for Key2Brain’s operations. The start-up company Key2Brain develops small antibody fragments which, when coupled with other proteins or drugs, can cross the blood-brain barrier and reach target molecules inside the brain. The goal is improved treatment for patients suffering from brain diseases. The company currently has projects in preclinical phase.
