[The SciLifeLab and Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS)](https://www.scilifelab.se/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/DDLS-strategy-v2.pdf) is building the [SciLifeLab Data Platform](https://www.scilifelab.se/data-driven/data-platform/), a hub for data-driven life science research. The Data Platform offers resources and services that promote the exchange and reuse of scientific outputs (e.g. data, code, methods) in accordance with the Open Science and [FAIR](https://www.go-fair.org/fair-principles/) principles. The [four Data Science Nodes (DSNs)](https://www.scilifelab.se/news/ddls-data-science-nodes-to-be-launched) within the DDLS program contribute services, resources, and best practice guidance relevant to their scientific area to the Data Platform.

The **Data Science Node in Evolution and Biodiversity (DSN-EB)**, hosted by Uppsala University and the Swedish Museum of Natural History, is now seeking input from the community to identify priorities for its operations.
We invite you to submit a **brief, three-page proposal** on the **national data services needed in the field of evolution and biodiversity**. This is your opportunity to help advance Swedish data-driven life sciences and make a lasting impact on national data services in this research area.

FEGA Sweden provides access to human genomic data for academic researchers in biomedicine. FEGA is based on data being submitted into a national node while the metadata is entered into a central function, called EGA, where researchers can search for metadata and, upon approval, securely access data. Approved ethical permissions are required to submit and access data. Additionally, the data controller must approve the applicant's project description for encrypted data to be made accessible. NBIS developed the technology in collaboration with other Nordic countries as part of the NeIC Tryggve projects. [https://neic.no/heilsa/](link) 

A pilot project with the Swedish Childhood Tumour Biobank (Barntumörbanken) has been completed. We now continue to work through the waiting list of about 20 research groups' data and open the doors for new research groups.

Details of the position and the recruitment process are given in the vacancy announcement, the key steps are:

The applications will be considered by the Director Search Committee in mid-August
Longlisted candidates will be invited to interview with Perrett Laver in late August
Director Search Committee will subsequently meet to decide upon a shortlist in early September and will proceed with first round interviews during w/c 11th September.  Final interviews will take place in the first half of October.

Niklas Blomberg, ELIXIR’s founding Director, announced his departure in April, after 10 years with ELIXIR. He will be leaving at the end of 2023 to become Executive Director of the Innovative Health Initiative, based in Brussels.

ELIXIR Director recruitment opens

Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden now offers routine diagnostic testing of cell-free DNA in patients with metastatic prostate cancer. The test is the result of a long collaboration between Johan Lindberg’s team and Scilifelab platforms (Clinical Genomics and NBIS) in the ProBio prospective clinical trial study. NBIS contributes to clinical application of diagnostic test for prostate cancer

In time for our 15 years’ anniversary, NBIS updates its face to the world. We have created an modern, refreshed website meeting the needs of our users. While we will continue to add functionality and information, we now release a first version of the new NBIS website.

NBIS new website released

It is 15 years since BILS, the first embryo to what would become NBIS, was initiated. Four years later, 2012, saw the formation of a second Swedish bioinformatics infrastructure, WABI. 

For a couple of years, the two infrastructures lived side by side, but in 2016 they merged and became NBIS, the Scilifelab bioinformatics platform. In 2021, the platform was joined by the AIDA Data Hub and BIIF forming the NBIS we have today, a multidisciplinary and important infrastructure for Swedish Life Science. 

We of course plan to celebrate our 15 years in various ways during 2023. Keep your eyes open for more upcoming info at a website near you.
