1–2 Application expert(s) in AI/ML at NBIS

NBIS (National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden) is looking for an engaged and knowledgeable research infrastructure specialist in artificial intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) with a focus on life science, or alternatively, life science with a focus on AI/ML (or equivalent). You will work closely with researchers, engineers, and other experts within the Support for Computational Resources unit at NBIS and related organisations, notably SciLifeLab, National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden (NAISS), and EuroHPC.

Your mission will be to support and develop AI/ML solutions for advanced life science applications, focusing on strengthening Swedish and European research and innovation. Our goal is that all scientists that could benefit from large-scale compute and storage systems can do so with minimal effort and maximum scientific output.

The role will focus on supporting researchers in life science more generally with managing data, software, tools, and support on nationally and internationally available computational resources, including the new AI Factories and EuroHPC resources, at NAISS and elsewhere.

The position is placed at Uppsala University, BMC, Science for Life Laboratory node in Uppsala. The person we are looking for will be employed at Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (ICM) and work at NBIS and SciLifeLab. Uppsala University is one of the founders of SciLifeLab – a national centre for state-of-the-art infrstructure and research in translationsl medicin and molecular biosciences.

The work tasks will include among other things:

  • Helping researchers and engineers manage large-scale data.

  • Working with sensitive human data in secure compute environments.

  • Developing and implementing AI/ML methods (e.g., machine learning, deep learning) for life science research.

  • Collaborating with research groups to identify needs and opportunities for AI/ML support in their projects.

  • Contributing to the development of AI infrastructure and tools.
